Overview
Despite being created at a time when websites relied heavily on tables, FCL's intranet was becoming increasingly unsustainable by mid-2014. The old intranet, designed in 2004, has not received any new features or updates since then.
Introduced at the close of 2014, the revamped intranet not only features a fresh appearance but also brings new functionalities for employees, streamlining the process of finding crucial information needed for daily tasks.

A 10-year leap
When I joined Cásper Líbero, the intranet looked like a website from the ’90s. The entire design was based on tables, and little to no CSS or modern HTML was used. When adding new pages or updating existing ones, it was easier to break the whole page because you placed the element in the wrong line or forgot to create a proper column and row. No one liked dealing with that website, and it was a big pain internally for the web team.
The development of a new intranet was both an aesthetic and technical necessity. The maintenance costs of the existing system were high, and even a small mistake could disrupt the website's structure. This is when I became involved in the project, tasked with modernizing a system that was over 10 years old.
When we launched the new Intranet, employees responded positively. We kept some great ideas from the previous project and introduced several new features. The website has shifted from a table-based design to a more modern layout, and we replaced a proprietary content management system (CMS) with WordPress. This change enabled internal teams to easily insert communications and company announcements into the system.
The project was successful; we not only developed an improved version of the intranet but also addressed a team issue that reduced the maintenance costs of an internal website. Employees can now find what they need easily, and internal teams experience less difficulty when adding content to the system.
